1. Avoid sun exposure
We love being outside - especially these days – and while it does have its benefits, it is super important to be mindful of the sun when you are doing it. Sun exposure is one of the leading causes of free radical damage and 80% of visible aging is caused by exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.
If you are spending time outside, make sure you're using sunscreen (at least SPF 50) and avoiding harsh rays during peak hours (typically 10am to 4pm).
2. Get enough rest
Eight hours of sleep is key to a youthful appearance (they call it beauty sleep for a reason!) If you are sleep deprived, your body produces more of the stress hormone cortisol which not only wreaks havoc on your complexion, it can lead to other issues like weight gain and weakened immunity.
Your body also increases blood flow to your skin while you sleep. When well rested, you’ll wake up with a rosy glow.
And most importantly, your body builds collagen when you sleep. We know that collagen is key to keeping your skin firm and youthful. As we age, the ability to build collagen lessens and when you add a lack of sleep to the equation, you may begin to look older faster. Sleep is your friend!

3. Stay active
Staying active just helps us feel better all over. Whether it’s a quick walk around the park or a regular exercise routine – these activities are good for everything - our mind, body and yes, even skin!
When we get our heart rate up through physical activity – we improve blood circulation which increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body, including the skin. This can help promote collagen production and new skin cell activity – extremely helpful actions in the war on aging!
4. Eat antioxidant rich foods
Antioxidants are arguably the most important line of defense when it comes to your overall health. Our body’s cells naturally produce some powerful antioxidants but because of the exposure to additional free radicals (like from pollution, UV rays, even some processed foods) we need to take in additional antioxidants to neutralize the free radicals.
Antioxidants are readily available in the foods we eat. Fruits & veggies are great choices and typically, the brighter or deeper the color, the higher the antioxidant value. Think green leafy veggies, and bright, colorful berries.

5. Stay hydrated
