Collagen 101 – Why We Need Collagen

Collagen 101 – Why We Need Collagen

Collagen. We’ve definitely educated you about this before on the Glomission but it’s time for a refresher because of the very important role collagen plays not only to the body especially to aging skin!

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and one of the major building blocks of bones, skin, muscles, tendons hair, and ligaments. Often referred to as the body’s scaffolding, collagen comprises 90% of our connective tissues and is literally the glue that holds the body together. Collagen is responsible for supporting bone and joint health, building lean muscle mass, maintaining cartilage integrity, help manage exercise related pain and has even been shown to promote healing after an injury. Collagen also makes up about 75% of the skin and is responsible for keeping our skin firm and bouncy – the keys to youthful looking skin!

Unfortunately, as we age, we start to lose collagen. The body’s ability to produce collagen slows down and even produces lower-quality collagen. Our bodies are constantly producing collagenases, enzymes that break the peptide bonds in collagen, essentially eating away at our natural collagen. We start losing about a percent of collagen per year in our mid-20s and lose as much as 30% during the first 5 years of menopause. Environmental factors such as sun exposure, smoking and diet also play a big role in the destruction of collagen. Did you know that sugar and refined carbs are really bad for collagen? Sugar actually interferes with collagen’s ability to repair itself!

For centuries, Chinese women have viewed collagen as a “Fountain of Youth,” consuming foods high in collagen, like shark fin and pig’s feet, in hopes of smoothing skin and preserving aging joints. Luckily for us, there are easier ways to add collagen to our diet. Yes, collagen is found in some of the foods we eat but it may be beneficial to add a collagen supplement to your daily beauty wellness routine.

Beware - not all collagen is created the same! Look for a Bioactive Collagen Peptide, like the one found in Glotrition’s Super Beauty Elixir or Glotrition’s NEW Collagen Boost. This assures that the collagen you're taking is "hydrolyzed" or broken down to a point that it is bioavailable to your body and ready to get right to work on your skin. Glotrition’s patented Bioactive Collagen Peptides (BCP) stimulate new collagen production from the inside, feeding those deeper skin layers as well as hair, nails and joints. The deeper layers are responsible for creating and pushing up new skin cells to the surface. And new skins cells, when fed properly, can make the skin appear healthier and plumper, giving you a healthy glow. The BCP has been clinically shown to increase skin firmness and reduce wrinkle depth in 30 days.

But a collagen peptide supplement has multiple benefits beyond the skin.

It can improve joint health, protecting against joint damage and deterioration and may even calm joint inflammation. Collagen Peptides can help the body naturally increase bone density which becomes a bigger issue in our 50s. It can also help build and maintain lean muscle, improve cellulite and may even help healthy weight management.

When you add Glotrition’s Super Beauty Elixir to your beauty wellness routine, you are creating a foundation to not only build new collagen but repair and protect existing collagen with its other effective ingredients including Glotrition’s own antioxidant blend. Glotrition’s NEW Collagen Boost is a great add on to your SBE giving you an extra boost of BCPs that will ramp up the collagen benefits. Boost is unflavored and can be added to your SBE or other foods and liquids. With continued and regular use of BCPs, skin appears smoother, plumper and even has more elasticity – all keys to healthier, youthful looking skin.

So join as we celebrate collagen – the key to healthy, glowing ski, stronger nails, and thicker, fuller looking hair!
